com Major Responsibilities for Engineering Geologist GMU is seeking an Engineering Geologist to join our growing team of Engineers and Geologists.
Types of projects range from high-profile public works infrastructure projects to private developer and residential projects.
The Engineering Geologist will assist and lead a full range of tasks spanning from geotechnical investigations to project design and construction, including the following:
Background research using geology maps, background geotechnical reports, aerial photos, GIS, etc.
Perform and manage geotechnical field investigations:
mapping, drilling, test pits, etc.
Prepare geotechnical maps, cross sections, boring logs, and relevant analyses.
Prepare geotechnical design reports for a wide variety of projects.
Construction inspections and observations, including geologic observations and mapping for hillside grading projects.
Manage projects independently and with supporting staff, including proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and deliverables.
Actively expand technical expertise to integrate into GMU's diverse team of Engineers and Geologists; this includes gaining experience in related engineering fields - geotechnical, civil, structural, and pavement.
Minimum Requirements Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences Licensed CA Professional Geologist, and pursuing license for Certified Engineering Geologist Minimum 5 years of relevant, full-time experience in geotechnical consulting Experience with geotechnical investigations, including all types of field exploration, drilling, and mapping.
Experience with preparation of geotechnical maps, cross sections, boring logs, and other relevant analysis.
Experience with preparation of geotechnical reports independently and as part of a geotechnical engineering team.
Experience with geotechnical observations during grading and construction, including hillside grading.
Experience with preparing proposals, managing budgets, and interfacing with clients.
Strong written, communication, and interpersonal skills, with commitment to excellent client relations Self-motivated and comfortable working autonomously and in a team-based environment Attention to detail, efficient time management, collaborate and support other team members, including mentoring staff.
Vehicle to perform field work on geotechnical projects.
Preferred Qualifications for More Experienced Candidates Licensed CA Certified Engineering Geologist Master of Science in Geological Sciences Understanding of Geotechnical Engineering Project Management experience with service to public agencies and private clients Proficiency with relevant software such as GIS, gINT, AutoCAD, etc.
Compensation and Benefits Package:
The base salary range offered for this position is $90,000 to $120,000 depending on experience and qualifications, plus 401(k) contribution matching, 401(k) profit sharing, bonus profit sharing, HSA contributions, and paid holidays.
Benefits package also includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
